Victims Of Criminal Activity: U Nonimmigrant Status

The U nonimmigrant status (U visa) is available for victims of certain crimes who have suffered physical or mental abuse and are willing to assist law enforcement or government officials in the investigation or prosecution of criminal activity. This visa was established by Congress through the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act (including the Battered Immigrant Women’s Protection Act) in October 2000. The purpose of this legislation is to enhance the ability of law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute crimes such as domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking, and other offenses, while also offering protection to crime victims who have endured substantial mental or physical harm and are willing to cooperate with law enforcement in their efforts. Additionally, the legislation helps law enforcement better support crime victims.

If you believe you are a victim of violence and may qualify for a U visa, please contact us for further details or inquiries.
